You will learn

Learn how to create automated messages (emails that send themselves when shoppers take an action), edit them, and turn them on or off. Your store keeps marketing while you run your business.

Before you begin

Requirements: Start from your dashboard after guided setup. Setup offers a welcome automation and an abandoned checkout automation. Check their status in Automations before you create another automation. Skipped setup steps do not create automations. See Understanding guided setup with Klaviyo in Wix.

Automated messages you can create

From the dashboard, ask Composer, the AI assistant in the app, to create an automation. Composer drafts the emails with your site's branding. For example, ask for any of these:

  • Welcome: emails new subscribers as soon as they join your Email List.
  • Abandoned Checkout: emails shoppers who start a checkout but do not place an order.
  • Abandoned Cart: emails shoppers who add an item to their cart but do not place an order.
  • Browse Abandonment: emails shoppers who view a product but do not add to cart, start a checkout, or buy.
  • Post-purchase: emails customers after they place an order.
  • Customer thank you: thanks customers after a purchase.
  • Customer Winback: re-engages customers who do not purchase again after an order.

Composer shows the trigger, the wait times, and each email in a preview before you save the automation.

Note: You can have up to 3 automated messages live at once on the free plan, including live automations created at klaviyo.com. To set another automation live, turn one off first or upgrade your Klaviyo account.

Create an automated message

  1. From the dashboard, choose Create automation in the Automations section. Composer opens.
  2. Describe the automation you want, or use one of the examples above. Composer can ask follow-up questions.
  3. Review the flow preview. It shows the trigger, each step, and each email. Ask Composer for changes to the content, subject line, or timing.
  4. Click Set Live to save the automation and turn it on. After you turn it on, the button reads Live. Or click Save to keep it as a draft. To turn on a draft later, open the row menu in the Automations table and choose Enable.

Edit an automated message

  1. Open the automation from the Automations table on the dashboard.
  2. Composer opens with your automation. Describe your changes, then click Save. If the automation is live, it continues to run while you update the email.

If you are prompted to edit an automation created at klaviyo.com, click Edit in Klaviyo to open your flows there and make changes.

Turn an automated message on or off

  1. In the Automations table, open the row menu.
  2. Choose Enable to set the automation to Live, or Disable to stop automatic sending. If you choose Disable, click Disable again in the confirmation dialog. The status changes to Manual.

You can always turn an automation off. Before you turn one on, Klaviyo checks your live limit.

Note: If Klaviyo can set up your automation but cannot switch it on (for example, a temporary error), it is saved as a draft instead of being lost. Enable it from the dashboard when you are ready.

Delete an automated message

A deleted automated message cannot be recovered. In the Automations table, open the row menu and choose Delete, then click Delete in the confirmation dialog. You see Automation deleted. Messages that already sent are not affected.
