RCS, SMS, and MMS are all mobile messaging channels, but they differ significantly in capabilities, user experience, tracking, and performance measurement.
RCS allows you to send branded, rich, interactive messages to your customers using a verified sender called an RCS Agent. This guide explains what an RCS agent is, how to request and enable one in Klaviyo, and how to manage its status.
RCS is a carrier-backed messaging standard that has matured primarily on Android. Apple has only recently added support for RCS on iOS, and that implementation is still evolving.
When you send RCS messages, they are delivered from an RCS agent. If you've sent SMS messages previously, then your subscribers will be receiving your RSC messages from a new sender. Although these messages are sent from your branded and verified RCS agent, they may appear in the “Unknown Senders” inbox on some subscribers’ iOS devices.
Once an RCS agent is activated in your Klaviyo account, RCS becomes the default message format for all text messages in the countries where you have an active agent.
Prerequisite: The RCS capability property only appears for accounts that have activated RCS. If RCS is not enabled for your account, this property will not be visible.
RCS lets you send rich, interactive messages which can increase engagement and conversions compared with SMS.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to add a basic text-only RCS message to a flow. If you’d like to add rich features, see our guide to creating rich RCS messages/a.
Klaviyo allows you to create rich RCS messages that include text, media, and interactive elements within both campaigns and flows. These richer messages help drive higher engagement and conversion rates by providing a more interactive customer experience.
RCS (Rich Communication Services) campaigns and flows now support tracking when a recipient opens your message. This helps you better understand engagement and target audiences more effectively.
Klaviyo does not currently charge any RCS agent fees in any country. However, fees may be introduced in the future for agents registered in the US only.
