How to connect and use apps in Composer
You will learn
Learn how to connect an app to Composer, use its information or creative assets in a conversation, and manage the connection. For example, you can find artwork in Canva, choose a design, and ask Composer to use it in a campaign draft.
Choose an app for your task
Use a connector when your task depends on something in another app. You can work with your Klaviyo data without connecting an additional app.
In Composer, open Customize > Connectors to see the apps available to your account. Read an app’s description to decide whether it fits your task. Each connector provides specific tools, so connecting an app does not give Composer every feature of that app. Once connected, open the app and expand its tool count to see the supported actions.
For example, Canva supports finding and exporting designs without editing your originals. For a read-only connector, use Composer’s findings to decide what to change, then make the change in the source app.
Before you begin
You need access to Composer and an app account that can access the files, designs, or records you want to use. Review the permissions requested during setup.
Connect an app
- Open Customize > Connectors in Composer.
- Under Available connectors, select the app, read its description, and click Install.
- Complete setup in the new browser tab. Sign in to the app and authorize the requested access. If setup opens a Klaviyo Marketplace listing, follow that integration’s instructions instead.
- Return to Connectors and check that the app appears under Your connectors > Enabled.
The connection is ready to use when the app is enabled. Open its detail page to review its tools or choose a request under Ideas to try. Selecting an idea sends that prompt to Composer.
Use the app in a conversation
Name the app, identify the source, and describe the result you want. Include a file or design link, account, product, or date range where it matters.
Example: turn Canva artwork into an email draft
Start by finding the artwork, so you can choose the source before Composer drafts the message:
“Search my Canva designs for summer sale artwork and show me the matching designs.”
Check the results and choose the design you want. Then continue in the same conversation with a brief that supplies the audience, offer, and constraints:
“Use that design in an email campaign draft for customers who purchased in the last 90 days. Feature our summer collection, use a friendly tone, and do not include a discount.”
Review the draft’s artwork, copy, links, and audience before using it. If Composer chose the wrong source, correct it before asking for further changes. Adapt the example to your own campaign and use only offers and product details you have confirmed.
Reconnect, disable, or uninstall an app
Reconnect an app
If an app appears under Needs reconnection, authorize it again:
- In Customize > Connectors, click the app’s Reconnect action. You can also open the app and click Needs authentication.
- Complete authorization in the new tab, then return to Composer and check that the app appears under Enabled.
- Return to the conversation and ask Composer to continue the task.
Disable or uninstall an app
Open the app’s 3-dot menu in Customize > Connectors. If the app offers Manage settings, manage its connection in the Klaviyo integration settings instead. For connections managed in Composer:
- To stop using the connector while keeping it installed, click Disable connector. To resume, open its menu under Disabled and click Enable connector. Complete authorization if prompted.
- To remove the connection, click Uninstall connector, then confirm Uninstall. To use it again, install it and complete any required authorization.
Troubleshoot a connection
Composer cannot find or read the source
Confirm that you can open the file or records in the connected app account. Give Composer the source’s name or link and the relevant date range. If a file format is unsupported or its contents are incomplete, provide the relevant text in the conversation and check the result against the original.
An action or suggestion is unavailable
Check the app’s status: install it if it is not connected, enable it if it is disabled, or reconnect it if authentication is required. Then expand the tool count on its detail page. If the action is not supported, complete it in the source app.
The connector page does not load
Click Reload page if that option appears. If the problem continues, contact Klaviyo Support with the app name and the error you see.
