You will learn

Use Comments in Klaviyo's drag-and-drop email editor to leave feedback directly on email blocks, reply to teammates, and track outstanding changes — all without leaving the editor. Faster review cycles mean fewer back-and-forth messages and quicker send times.

Before you begin

  • Comments are available in the drag-and-drop Email Editor only. They are not available in SMS, push notifications, or forms.
  • You must have a Content Creator, Campaign Coordinator, Manager, Administrator, or Owner role to add, edit, delete, resolve, or react to comments. Users with the Analyst role can read and view comments but cannot write them.
  • Users in read-only mode (no template editing access) will not see the block-level comment button.
  • Comments are tied to the template — anyone with access to the template can see all threads.
  • Estimated time: 1–2 minutes to leave a comment; real-time updates mean teammates see it immediately.

Overview

Comments let your team collaborate directly on an email before it sends. You can:

  • add a comment to any specific block in the email,
  • reply to existing comment threads,
  • edit or delete your own comments,
  • resolve or unresolve a thread once feedback is addressed,
  • react to comments with emoji,
  • mention teammates with @ to notify them directly, and
  • control how you're notified about new activity.

Comments are scoped to the template and update in real time — no refresh needed. The original email content is never changed by leaving a comment; comments are a layer on top of the design.

Set it up

Open the comments panel

  1. Open any email from Templates, Campaigns > Email, or Flows > Email.
  2. In the top-right corner of the editor header, click the speech bubble icon. A badge on the icon shows the number of unresolved or unread threads.
  3. The Comments panel slides open on the right side of the canvas. All existing threads for this email are listed here.

Tip: Click the icon again at any time to collapse the panel without losing your place in the editor.

Add a comment to a block

  1. Hover over any block on the canvas. A quick-action toolbar appears above the block.
  2. Click the comment icon (speech bubble) in the toolbar.
  3. A comment composer appears. Type your feedback — you can use bold, italic, strikethrough, and emoji.
  4. To notify a specific teammate, type @ followed by their name and select them from the dropdown.
  5. Click Submit to post the comment. A small avatar indicator appears at the right edge of the block, showing that it has an active thread.

Tip: You can also start from the Comments panel — open it first, then click into the block you want to annotate.

Reply to a thread

  1. In the Comments panel, click any existing thread to open the detail view.
  2. Type your reply in the composer at the bottom of the thread.
  3. Click Submit. Replies appear in chronological order below the original comment.

Resolve a thread

  1. Open the thread in the Comments panel.
  2. Click Resolve in the thread header. The thread moves to the resolved view and the block indicator disappears from the canvas.
  3. To reopen a resolved thread, use the filter at the top of the panel to show Resolved threads, then click Unresolve.

Tip: Any team member with write access can resolve or unresolve any thread — you don't have to be the original author.

Edit or delete your own comments

  1. Hover over your comment in a thread. A ··· (more) menu appears.
  2. Select Edit to update the comment body, then click Save.
  3. Select Delete to remove the comment. The comment body is replaced with a placeholder to preserve thread continuity.

React to a comment

  1. Hover over any comment in a thread.
  2. Click the emoji icon that appears.
  3. Select a reaction. Your avatar is shown on the reaction so teammates know who reacted.
  4. Click the same reaction again to remove it.

Manage notification settings

By default, you'll receive email notifications for all new activity on templates you've commented on.

  1. In the Comments panel, click the gear (⚙) icon in the panel header.
  2. Choose one of three settings:
    • All activity — notifies you of every new comment and reply on this template.
    • Mentions only — notifies you only when someone @mentions you.
    • Off — disables all notifications for this template.
  3. Your preference is saved automatically.
