Learn what an email header is and how to get it depending on your inbox provider.

Our Compliance Team sometimes requests that you provide us an email header so we can better troubleshoot and investigate specific issues.

What is an email header?

An email header contains a lot of information about an email and the network path it has taken. This type of information helps our Compliance Team narrow down issues. All emails have an email header and all email clients pull certain information from the header and display it in a user-friendly way. The type of information you can find includes the from address, from/reply-to email address, subject line, recipient, and more.

Gmail.com (works for G-Suite/Google apps)

First, open the email you would like to get the header for and click the down arrow in the upper right corner of the message, next to the reply button.

Select the option Show original.

A new tab will open displaying the original message. Copy and paste the message or download the original and send it to us directly.

AOL

Open the email you would like to get the header for and select More > View Message Source.

Outlook / Hotmail / Outlook 365 (Web-Email)

Open the email you would like to get the header for and click the options dropdown to the right of the from name/email address.

Select View message source.

The full email header will display in a modal. Copy and paste this and send it to us directly.

Yahoo

Open the email you would like to get the header for and select the option More > View Raw Message.

Apple Mail (Mac OS)

Select the email you would like to get the header for and click View from the top menu bar.

Select Message > Raw Source.
