How to disclose reviewer incentives

About review incentives

Review incentives are a great way to boost your review submission rate and add more reviews to your site. You can offer customers a small gift or thank you for their review, like:

• A discount or free shipping on their next order
• A gift
• Free product in exchange for honest reviews
• Entry into a giveaway or sweepstakes

When offering incentives like these, or when the reviewer has a personal relationship with you or the brand, it’s a reviews best practice to disclose the incentive on the review itself.

Disclosing review incentives

Klaviyo offers the option to indicate that a reviewer received an incentive for any submitted reviews. You can do this in 3 ways:

• Manually mark individual reviews as incentivized.
• Automatically mark reviews as incentivized using a flow.
• Generate an individual link to leave an incentivized review.

Incentivized reviews appear with a small Incentivized tag and gift icon in reviews widgets. In certain contexts, only the gift icon is visible. By hovering over the icon, a visitor can see what type of incentive the reviewer received.

Manually mark a review as incentivized

You can manually mark a review as incentivized if you need to add the indicator to an existing review.

1. Navigate to the Reviews tab.
2. Click All reviews.
3. Search for the review you’d like to mark as incentivized.
4. If the review is not already published, click Publish. Pending reviews cannot be marked as incentivized.
5. Open the three dots menu and select Mark as incentivized.
   

6. In the modal that appears, select the incentive the reviewer received.
7. Click Mark as incentivized.

Automatically mark reviews as incentivized using a flow

You can automatically mark future reviews as incentivized in a Klaviyo Reviews flow triggered by Ready to review. The setting applies to reviews submitted through links in the messages where you enable it.

1. Navigate to the Flows tab in Klaviyo.
2. Open your review request flow.
3. Click the card for any review request message that mentions an incentive. This will open the message sidebar.
4. In the Settings section of the message sidebar, select Enable UTM Tracking.
5. Select the option Use custom tracking parameters.
6. Check Mark reviews as incentivized and select an incentive type.
   

7. Click Save.
8. Repeat these steps for any other messages in the flow that reference an incentive.
9. If your review request messages are not yet live, click Review and turn on (or Update status if your flow already has messages in manual or live status). Select Live, then click Save.

Generate an individual link to leave an incentivized review

If you’re offering an incentive to a reviewer outside of your flow, send them an incentivized review link.

1. Navigate to Reviews > Products.
2. Open a product’s additional options menu.
3. Select Copy incentivized link to review.
4. In the dialog, select the incentive you’re offering from Type of incentive.
5. Click Copy link.
6. Paste the copied link into your message and send it to the reviewer.
