Get started with connecting your WhatsApp Business account to Klaviyo. You can automatically reach out to customers via WhatsApp at key points in their customer journey.

This feature is in limited availability. Stay tuned! 

If you are using WhatsApp with another provider but want to test our feature, we suggest you create another WhatsApp Business Account during the beta program to avoid any disruptions to your current marketing campaigns.

Before starting, please make sure you:

  • Prepare your company information, including:
    • Legal business name and address.
    • Legal business website. The URL must include your business domain.
    • Desired display name in WhatsApp.
  • Have your credentials to Facebook and a Meta Business account.
    • Please note that Meta may take up to several hours to verify new accounts.
  • Consider the phone number to use for WhatsApp (e.g., main business or support phone number)
    • This cannot be your SMS sending number.

  1. Click your account name in the lower left corner.
  2. Select Settings > WhatsApp.
  3. Click Connect to WhatsApp to get started.
  4. Review the permissions.

  5. When ready, click Get started.
Log in to your Facebook account

Log in to your Facebook account

To use or connect WhatsApp, you must have a Facebook account.

Don’t already have a Facebook account? Set one up.

If you do not have a Facebook account, click Create an account and follow the steps from the embedded sign-up to create an account. For more details, check out this Facebook setup article.

Once you set up your Facebook account, you must wait 1 hour before continuing.

  1. Enter your Facebook username or email as well as your password.
  2. Choose to Continue as [Your Facebook account].
    • If the name of the account isn’t correct, click Cancel and try again.

The next steps require that you have both a:

  • Meta Business account
  • WhatsApp Business profile

If you haven’t yet set these up, we’ll walk you through it.

  1. Open the Business portfolio dropdown and either:
    • Choose an existing Meta Business Account and review the pre-filled information for accuracy.
    • Click Create a business account and enter the following information:
      • Company name.
      • Professional email address (used to verify the account).
      • Business website or profile page
      • Country
      • Address (optional)

  2. Click Next.
  3. Choose or create your WhatsApp profile.
    • To create a new profile, enter your:
      • WhatsApp Business account name.
      • WhatsApp Business profile screen name (aka the display name).
      • Category (aka your industry).
      • Optional: add other information by clicking Show more options
        • Time zone.
        • Company description (optional).
        • Website.

Choose a phone number for WhatsApp

  1. Enter the phone number for your WhatsApp account by either:
    • Using your business or support phone number

      You can use an existing number, such as your main company or support phone number, for WhatsApp. Alternatively, you can set up a Google Voice number for WhatsApp.

      • You cannot use your SMS phone number from Klaviyo.
    • Getting a free number from Meta

      You can request a free phone number from Meta. To get approved, Meta must review your business and display name. This may take up to 5 business days.

    • Migrating a number already on WhatsApp

      If you have a phone number registered with WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business App, you can migrate this phone number.

    • Migrating a number from another Solution Partner

      You can migrate your business phone numbers from another Solution Partner by migrating it from an existing WhatsApp Business Account to the one you plan to use with Klaviyo. When you do this, you retain your display names, quality ratings, template messaging limits, Official Business Account statuses, and approved templates.

  2. Pick how you want to verify this number (either text message or phone call).
    • If using a Google Voice number, choose to verify by a phone call.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code to verify your phone number.

Newly created WhatsApp Business accounts must be verified within 30 days. If you created a new WhatsApp business account, see instructions for verifying your WhatsApp account.
