How to connect your WhatsApp Business account to Klaviyo

Get started with connecting your WhatsApp Business account to Klaviyo. You can automatically reach out to customers via WhatsApp at key points in their customer journey.

Before you begin

Before starting, please make sure you:

• Prepare your company information, including:
  • Legal business name and address.
  • Legal business website. The URL must include your business domain.
  • Desired display name in WhatsApp.
• Have your Facebook login credentials. To use an existing Meta Business Portfolio, you need admin access to it. You can also create a new portfolio during setup.
  • Please note that Meta may take up to several hours to verify new accounts.
• Decide which phone number you want to use for WhatsApp before starting setup. For help choosing a number or getting one, see How to get a phone number for WhatsApp.
  • This cannot be your SMS sending number.
• If your number is already registered with WhatsApp, review the instructions for migrating from the WhatsApp Business App or another WhatsApp Business Solution Provider before starting setup.

Find WhatsApp in Klaviyo

1. Click your account name in the lower left corner.
2. Select Settings > WhatsApp.
3. Click Try WhatsApp for free to get started.
4. Select the option that describes whether your business already uses WhatsApp, then follow the setup guidance for your situation.
5. Review the phone-number and account guidance. When you’re ready to continue in Meta, click Connect to WhatsApp.
6. Review the permissions.
   

7. When ready, click Get started.

Log in to your Facebook account

To use or connect WhatsApp, you must have a Facebook account.

Once you set up your Facebook account, you must wait 1 hour before continuing.

1. Enter your Facebook username or email as well as your password.
2. Choose to Continue as [Your Facebook account].
   • If the name of the account isn’t correct, click Cancel and try again.

Select your Meta and WhatsApp business accounts

The next steps require that you have both a:

• Meta Business account
• WhatsApp Business profile

If you haven’t yet set these up, we’ll walk you through it.

1. Open the Business portfolio dropdown and either:
   • Choose an existing Meta Business Account and review the pre-filled information for accuracy.
   • Click Create a business account and enter the following information:
     • Company name.
     • Professional email address (used to verify the account).
     • Business website or profile page
     • Country
     • Address (optional)
       

2. Click Next.
3. Create your WhatsApp Business account (WABA) and profile. If you’re migrating from another provider, create a new WhatsApp Business account for Klaviyo.
   • To create a new profile, enter your:
     • WhatsApp Business account name.
     • WhatsApp Business profile display name.
       • Make sure this display name follows Meta’s guidelines.
     • Category (aka your industry).
     • Optional: add other information by clicking Show more options
       • Time zone.
       • Company description (optional).
       • Website.
         

Choose and verify a phone number for WhatsApp

The verification steps below are for a phone number you own. Make sure you can receive a text message or phone call on it during setup. For help choosing a number or using a Meta-provided number, see How to get a phone number for WhatsApp. If you use a Meta-provided number, follow that guide, then continue to Complete the connection below.

• You cannot use your Klaviyo SMS sending number.

1. Enter the phone number you want to use for WhatsApp when prompted in Meta’s signup.

2. Pick how you want to verify this number (either text message or phone call).
   • If using a Google Voice number, choose to verify by a phone call.
3. Click Next.
4. Enter the 6-digit code to verify your phone number.

Complete the connection

1. Complete the remaining prompts in Meta’s signup and click Finish. Return to Klaviyo.
2. Wait for Klaviyo to confirm that WhatsApp is connected. If the confirmation screen shows a Done button, click it to close setup.
