Learn how to create a sign-up form that retargets your existing email subscribers to ask them if they want to sign up for SMS marketing. Collecting phone numbers from your email subscribers enables you to engage across multiple channels, and tailor messages based on subscriber preferences to create more personalized experiences.

Here, we assume you already have a multi-step form where you collect both email and SMS consent

This guide will walk through how to clone this form and adjust it to target those who are only subscribed to email. Cloning is the quickest and easiest way to set up this form. It allows you to copy the same branding and styles across forms, so you can publish it faster as well as create a cohesive, consistent opt-in experience.

Note that the steps to create a form that targets email-only subscribers are exactly the same for both Smart Opt-in multi-step forms and tap-to-text multi-step forms. Learn more about SMS opt-in methods.

  1. Navigate to the Sign-up forms tab in Klaviyo’s left-hand navigation.
  2. Find your multi-step form that collects both email and SMS consent, then click the 3 dots > Edit form
  3. Select Clone.

  4. Choose Clone to this account, and name your cloned form (e.g., Retarget email subscribers).
  5. Select Continue.

  6. Find your new, cloned form on the list, then click the 3 dots > Edit form to enter the form editor.
  7. Next to Email Opt-in above your form preview, click the 3 dots > Delete.

  8. Confirm you want to remove this step by clicking Delete Step. Your form will now only ask for SMS consent.

  9. Click into the Targeting & behavior tab.
  10. Select Targeting.
  11. Click the dropdown under Visitors, and select Show to email subscribers only.

  12. Note: Make sure the box under SMS Consent is checked for I plan to use this number for SMS marketing.
  13. Click Publish.

Once it’s published, this sign-up form will only display for those who have previously subscribed to your email marketing to ask them for SMS consent. You can also send a campaign to your email subscribers with a link to this form to drive opt-ins.
