You will learn

Learn how to create automated messages (emails that send themselves when shoppers take an action), edit them, and turn them on or off, so your store keeps marketing while you run your business.

Before you begin

Requirements: Complete guided setup first. Your account already includes a live Welcome Flow and Abandoned Checkout Flow from setup. See Understanding guided setup.

Automated messages you can create

From the dashboard, create any of these. Each comes with branded templates and recommended settings:

  • Welcome: emails new subscribers as soon as they join your Newsletter list.
  • Abandoned Checkout: emails shoppers who start a checkout but don't place an order.
  • Abandoned Cart: emails shoppers who add to cart but don't start a checkout, after a few hours.
  • Browse Abandonment: emails shoppers who view a product but don't add to cart, start a checkout, or buy.
  • Post-Purchase Followup: emails customers after they place an order.
  • Customer Thank You: thanks customers after a purchase.
  • Customer Winback: re-engages customers who haven't bought in a while.

Create an automated message

  1. From the dashboard, choose Create automated message and pick a type.
  2. Choose a template. Each is pre-styled with your store's branding.
  3. Adjust the content, subject line, and sender details as needed.
  4. Click Set Live. The automation is created and starts running immediately.

Note: You can have up to 3 automated messages live at once on the free plan. To add a new automation, turn one off first or upgrade.

Edit an automated message

  1. Open the automation from the Automated messages table on the dashboard.
  2. Change the design or details, then save. Design changes are applied by updating the email the automation sends; the automation itself keeps running without interruption.

Turn an automated message on or off

  1. In the Automated messages table, open the row menu.
  2. Choose enable or disable. You'll see a confirmation like Welcome Flow set to Live.

Turning an automation off is always allowed. Turning one on checks your live limit first.

Note: If Klaviyo can set up your automation but can't switch it on (for example, a temporary error), it's saved as a draft instead of being lost. Enable it from the dashboard when you're ready.

Delete an automated message

Open the row menu and choose Delete. You'll see Automated message deleted. Deleting doesn't undo messages that already sent.
