Understanding guided setup in Klaviyo Starter in Shopify

Learn what Klaviyo's guided setup creates in your account, in what order, and how to pick up where you left off, so you know exactly what's running when setup finishes.

Before you begin

Requirements: Guided setup starts automatically after you create your account inside Shopify. If you haven't installed the app yet, start with Getting started with Klaviyo in Shopify.

The three setup steps

Guided setup builds the core loop that turns store visitors into subscribers and subscribers into customers. Each step goes live as soon as you save it:

1. Sign-up form. Pick a form layout and click Use this form. The form is published to your storefront immediately and subscribers it collects join your list.
2. Welcome email. Choose a template (each is already styled with your store's branding, pulled from your Shopify theme), adjust the content, and save. This creates an automation called Welcome Flow that emails every new subscriber who joins your list. It's live the moment you save.
3. Abandoned checkout email. Choose and adjust a template, then save. This creates an automation called Abandoned Checkout Flow that emails shoppers who start a checkout but don't place an order within a set time. It's also live on save.

When you finish the last step, you'll see a Setup complete celebration and land on your dashboard.

Note: Guided setup doesn't include campaigns. You can create campaigns any time from the dashboard once setup is done.

Leaving and resuming setup

You can close the app mid-setup without losing progress. Setup resumes at your first unfinished step, even if you reload the page or reinstall the app. Klaviyo tracks each step as complete only when the form or automation is actually created, so you can trust that a completed step really exists in your account.

Note: Completed steps stay completed. If you later delete the form or an automation that setup created, setup does not restart, and the app won't recreate them automatically. You can always create a new form or automation yourself from the dashboard.

What the setup emails do by default

• The welcome email sends immediately when someone joins your list through your form. If you leave the subject blank while editing, it sends as Welcome! Thanks for signing up.
• The abandoned checkout email is triggered when someone starts a checkout on your storefront but does not purchase.
• Both send from your account's default sender: your store name as the From name and the store owner's email as the From address, unless you set different values in the editor or in Settings.

Note: Subscribers from your existing Shopify customer history don't receive the welcome email. Only new sign-ups trigger it.
