Learn how to build segments with AI built directly into Klaviyo’s segment builder. This tool accepts natural language inputs (i.e., normal phrases and sentences) and converts them into a Klaviyo segment.

How to define segments with AI

This assistant creates segments using generative AI technology. You are still responsible for the final segment definition.

  1. Navigate to Audience > Lists & segments.
  2. Click Create > Segment.
  3. Add a name for your segment. If a naming panel opens, click Create segment to continue to the segment builder.
  4. Type out a sentence or phrase describing your desired segment directly in the condition selector. Not sure what to try? Start with the examples below.

  1. After entering your desired prompt, either:
    • Click the text shown under Define with AI.
      or
    • Use the arrow keys to highlight your prompt under Define with AI, then press Enter on your keyboard.
  2. Review the generated conditions, including the metrics, timeframes, and AND/OR connectors. If you see a partial generation message, check for missing conditions. You can edit individual conditions manually, or by selecting the Define with AI option when expanding a condition.
  3. To start again with a new prompt, delete the generated conditions.

  • Advanced segmentation reference

Learn effective advanced segmentation strategies that provide insights into your customer base and create highly personalized experiences for your subscribers.

  • Segment conditions reference

Learn more about segment conditions, including how to filter your conditions and more. When building segments in Klaviyo, conditions are the building blocks that you customize to either include or exclude certain sectors of your audience. In a nutshell, profiles will only appear in your dynamic segments when they meet the specific conditions you make when creating the segment.

  • Understanding how segments update

Learn how segments (i.e., dynamic groups of profiles in Klaviyo) update. Most segments update in close to real time, and profiles move in and out of segments based on whether or not their interactions with your brand match the conditions you set. Once you create a segment, it pulls members from all people in your account based on the definition you establish.
