How to integrate with DonorPerfect

Learn how to integrate DonorPerfect with Klaviyo. After completing these steps, you'll be able to personalize and target emails based on each Contributor's donation and website activity. Here's some of the data we sync from DonorPerfect:

• Amount of contribution
• Contributor information, including first and last name and location
• Donation frequency, when provided in DonorPerfect
• DonorPerfect donor IDs and flags

First, you'll need to find your DonorPerfect API key, then you'll enable the integration in Klaviyo.

You need permission to manage integrations in Klaviyo to complete setup.

Find your API key

You can retrieve your API Key from your DonorPerfect Account Manager. Send your account manager an email requesting your API Key and they will send it to you shortly.

Add the DonorPerfect integration in Klaviyo

1. In Klaviyo, select the Integrations tab.
2. On the next page, click Explore apps, search for DonorPerfect, and click the card.
3. Then, click Install.
4. Add your DonorPerfect API Key and click Connect to DonorPerfect.
5. Optional: select Add all DonorPerfect donors to a Klaviyo list, then select a list from the dropdown. Adding donors to a list does not subscribe them to marketing messages.

6. Click Complete setup.

Monitor the Klaviyo sync and verify data

To check on your DonorPerfect integration once you've integrated:

1. Click the Analytics dropdown in Klaviyo and select the Metrics tab.
2. Click the Made Contribution metric to check for imported donations. Wait for the initial sync to finish before comparing counts. Klaviyo imports historical donor and contribution data, but only for donors with a valid email address. Contributions with a missing or invalid amount, a missing gift ID, or an amount of 0 are skipped. The time needed for the initial sync depends on how much data is in your DonorPerfect account.
3. In the Made Contribution chart, select Total under Measurement and use daily aggregation to compare contribution counts. For example, hover over yesterday’s data point or look at the table below the chart to see how many contributions were reported yesterday.
4. Compare that count with the contributions stored in DonorPerfect for the same day. If the counts differ, allow for the hourly sync and check whether any contributions were excluded for the reasons above.
5. To check your timezone setting in Klaviyo:
   1. Click your account name in the lower left.
   2. Select Settings > General > Account.
   3. Scroll down to Time zone.

Klaviyo records each contribution at noon in your Klaviyo account’s time zone on the DonorPerfect gift date. If there is no gift date, it uses the contribution’s created date.

DonorPerfect data

There is 1 major metric that is captured by DonorPerfect and loaded into Klaviyo: Made Contribution.

The Made Contribution metric

This event is tracked when a supporter makes a contribution in DonorPerfect and the contribution is imported into Klaviyo. It includes the contribution amount and the supported donation details that are populated in DonorPerfect. You can filter and target Made Contribution events using properties such as:

• Value
• Campaign
• FirstGift
• GiftType
• InMemory
• Frequency

Here is an example of the data we receive along with a Made Contribution event:

Customer data

In addition to Made Contribution events, Klaviyo syncs donor information to profiles with a valid email address. You can use profile properties in segments and flows. The following standard profile fields are synced from DonorPerfect:

• Email
• First Name
• Last Name
• City
• State/Region
• Zip Code
• Country
• Phone Number

Klaviyo also imports the custom property DonorPerfect DonorID and donor flags named DonorPerfect Flag <flag name>. Flags are set to true when present in DonorPerfect and removed from the profile when a later sync no longer finds them.

How often DonorPerfect data syncs

Klaviyo checks DonorPerfect for new donor and contribution data approximately every hour. New donations and profile information are not synced instantaneously.

Add Klaviyo onsite tracking

The final step here is adding Klaviyo's Active on Site tracking code to your website footer. This Klaviyo tracking code will allow us to track an Active on Site metric for you so that you can see and leverage data related to site visits and visitor behavior. Through this metric, Klaviyo will track website activity for known browsers.

For example, you can use the Active on Site metric to create segments of people whose browsers Klaviyo has identified and who have visited your site, but haven't yet made a donation.

For manual installation, you need access to edit and publish your website’s main template. The steps below cover manual setup; if Klaviyo shows instructions for your website’s ecommerce platform, follow those instructions instead.

1. The following tracking script can be found in Klaviyo by selecting the Integrations tab, then clicking Manage data > Set up web tracking in the upper right corner.
2. If prompted to choose an installation method, select Set up manually and click Next.
3. Copy the code shown in Klaviyo, or use the script below, and paste it into your website’s main template before the </body> tag. If you use the script below, replace Public API Key with your Klaviyo public API key. To find it, click your account name and select Settings > General > API keys, then copy the Public API Key. Use your Klaviyo public API key here, not your DonorPerfect API key or a Klaviyo private API key.

1. Save and publish your website template before testing the installation.
2. Return to Klaviyo’s tracking setup, enter your website URL under Confirm onsite tracking is enabled, and click Confirm. Klaviyo shows a success message when it verifies the installation. If it cannot verify it, follow the troubleshooting instructions shown.

3. If Klaviyo asks you to update the website URL in your account settings, choose Update to change it or Continue without updating to keep the existing URL. Updating it also affects existing templates that link to your account’s website URL.

Outcome

You have now integrated with DonorPerfect, verified your synced data, and added Klaviyo onsite tracking.
