Insert a Product Block

Overview

The Product Block in Klaviyo provides two ways for you to populate buyable items from your product catalog into an email template:

  • Populate from Feed
Let Klaviyo populate items dynamically at send time, where items are curated from a pre-defined product feed. You can even personalize these recommended products for each individual recipient.
  • Select from Catalog
This allows you to manually choose which products you'd like to display. Browse your entire product catalog from within Klaviyo and insert up to 9 items.

Dynamically Populate Products from a Feed

Product feeds allow you to feature:
  • Trending products
  • Bestselling products
  • Personalized recommendations

You can also restrict product feeds to only display items from certain categories, if you'd like.

To use a product feed, follow these steps:
  1. Drag a product block into your template
  2. Toggle the options at the top to Populate from Feed
  3. Choose a pre-defined product feed from the drop-down menu
  4. Customize the block layout and styles to match your brand and the rest of your template
  5. You will see placeholder items in your template, but you can preview your email to see the feed populate with real items from your catalog
This option is great if you're designing templates for automated email flows -- constantly having to edit flow emails to update static product images as new items go in and out of style (and stock) can be a pain. With product feeds, we will always curate the right items to feature based on your feed's definition, so your most popular and trending items will be included in your flow emails even as trends shift.

For Magento and Shopify stores, if a product goes out of stock, we'll "unpublish" it from your catalog so it won't appear in any feed.

In the Data Feeds tab, it's possible to create one or more feeds that are defined by a certain weighting system and can be limited to include or exclude certain product categories/collections.

When you choose a feed and click to save all your settings, you will still see placeholder items in your template. If you are editing your template as a draft campaign, or within a flow, you can preview your email in Klaviyo to see the feed populate with real items from your catalog.

Manually Select Products from Your Catalog

For different email campaigns, you may want to hand-pick the right products to feature in a given template. With the Select from Catalog option, you can browse your entire product catalog and pick up to 9 items to feature in your template.

Our search functionality lets you find specific items by name or Item ID, and you can filter your catalog by category for easier browsing. If you want to pick from a selection of popular or trending products, you can also use our "feed" filter; this lets you filter your catalog based on the definition of an existing product feed.

As you browse and select items for your email, you can toggle at any time to view all items you’ve already selected. This allows you to begin making decisions about which products look best side-by-side and should be featured together.

When you’ve selected one or more items, click Add Products to watch as Klaviyo populates these items into your new Product Block. By default, we will auto-fill the following details about each product:

  • Product image
  • Product title
  • Product price

You will also see a “Buy Now” button under each item -- you can customize the appearance of this button, including the text and styles.

You can also choose to insert a “custom description” for each item. The custom description will fall below the product’s title and price, but above the button.

If you are using custom descriptions, we recommend keeping each description under 120 characters. Be careful to also keep your descriptions for each item a similar length, to avoid alignment issues with this block in your email.

By default, product images and buttons are automatically linked to the product's page in your store. If you'd like, however, you can click a link to choose a custom destination URL. This can be useful if you would like to feature a single product from a collection, and then use the image and call-to-action (CTA) button to drive the recipient to this collection's page in your store (vs. a single product page).

After you select one or more products to feature, you may want to re-arrange how the items appear in your template. We've made the tiles in the left-hand panel draggable, so you can reorder any items.

After choosing your products and adjusting the layout, you can also style each element individually. The rest of this guide focuses on layout and style options for this block.

Customize Layout Options

When you are customizing a feed within the product block, you’ll have the following options:

  • Choose Number of Rows & Columns
Build a grid of placeholders using up to 3 rows and up to 3 columns; at send time, we will populate all placeholders with real products from your store, but you can choose how many and their orientation
  • Choose a Max Item Height
If all of your product images are different sizes, you may want to set a “maximum height” that will restrict the size of all images; we recommend keeping your max height at or below 200px if you are using 3 columns
  • Choose Which Item Elements to Feature
When Klaviyo populates products into your template, you can choose which products details show along with the image:
    • Product name
    • Product price
    • CTA (call to action) button

When you are customizing the layout for items you’ve selected yourself from your product catalog, you’ll have the following options:

  • Orientation
You can choose to have all of your items displayed horizontally in your template, with all item details populating below the image; alternatively, you can choose to have all items vertically stacked, with item details populating next to the product image
  • Items per Row
When items in your block are displayed horizontally, you can choose how many items you want to populate on each row; Klaviyo will automatically arrange all of the items in a grid based on how many  you want to feature and the number of items per row you select
  • Image Left / Right
When items in your block are vertically stacked, you can choose whether you want the product image to appear to the left or the right of the other item details
  • Alignment
You can choose to align all items within the Product Block to the left, right, or center of your template
    • Custom description
    • CTA (call to action) button
When Custom Description is toggled on, you will be able to edit the description for each selected item in the Content section where you’ll also be able to edit Product Name, Product Price, and the button text.

Customize Block Styles

In the Block Styles tab of a product block, it's possible to adjust styles for each aspect of the block:

  • For product title, product price and custom description, you can adjust font color, style, size, and weighting, as well as text alignment.
  • For the button, you can adjust border radius, background color, drop shadow, and padding, as well as font color, style, size, and weighting, and text alignment
  • For each item, you can adjust padding for top, bottom, right, and left. For the block itself, you can adjust padding as well as change the background color for the block.

Troubleshooting

If you notice links in a product block are broken, please note that there is a 200 character limit on product image URLs. If you have a product image URL that is longer than 200 characters, you will receive a 404 error when you click the link. Please reach out to us if you notice issue in your account.
