How to back-populate a flow

To back-populate a flow:

  1. Click on the Flows tab, and then on the name of the flow.
  2. Check that the flow's messages are set to either manual or live status before back-populating.
  3. Click on the Manage Flow dropdown in the header and click Back-Populate Flow Recipients. Manage Flow dropdown showing the Back-Populate Flow Recipients option

Please note that if you are back-populating a flow with 1 or more SMS messages in it, you will want to review the message sending speeds associated with your account for a more accurate representation of when your text messages will actually go out.

Whether the flow is triggered by a list, segment, or metric affects your options for back-populating. List- and segment-triggered flows can back-populate either relative to when you hit back-populate, so all recipients start at the beginning of the flow, or relative to where the recipient falls within the flow's timeline, so recipients will join the flow based on when they joined the list or segment. Metric-triggered flows only back-populate relative to when someone performed the action that triggered the flow.

There is no option for back-populating price drop- or date property-triggered flows. To learn more, check out our article on understanding how date-based flows queue recipients.
