How usage is measured
Every time Composer does work for you, it uses some capacity.
Usage on Composer is dynamic. The same action can cost different amounts depending on the request size, complexity, and data, so two campaigns or two audits won't always cost exactly the same. We show estimated ranges, not fixed costs.
Some questions are free. Asking Composer for support or general information does not use any credits.
Our Paid Composer Plan ($20) offers 4X capacity compared to our Free Plan.
What actions cost
Composer actions cost different amounts depending on what you're asking for. The table below shows the typical range for each action.

Why costs vary
Three things drive how much capacity an action uses:
- Request complexity: A quick check costs less than a deep, multi-part request.
- How much data Composer reviews: Auditing one short message uses fewer capacity than analyzing a large campaign with many components.
- The type of action: Generating a full campaign does more work than answering a focused question, so it costs more.
Because of this, treat the numbers above as estimated ranges, not fixed costs.
Track your usage
You can see your usage any time in the in-product Composer usage panel. It shows how far into your free access you are and how many credits you've used. Credit usage appears here after your actions run, so you can keep an eye on your balance as you go.
The panel shows:
- % of Composer plan used
- Days left in your billing cycle
- Buttons to View plan and Buy more
To open it:
- Open Composer in your Klaviyo account.
- Find the Composer usage panel.
- Review your days remaining and capacity used
- Select Buy more when you're ready to add more, or View plan to see your plan details.
Your free plan
As a Klaviyo customer, you automatically get a free Composer plan with some capacity to start. There's nothing to sign up for, opt into, or activate, and no credit card is needed to start.
Your free plan capacity restarts at the beginning of your usage or billing cycle. If you run out of capacity or hit 100% usage, you can upgrade to a paid Composer plan or wait until your next billing cycle begins.
Composer lets you know as you approach your limit so there are no surprises. You'll get alerts when you reach 75%, 90%, and 100% of your plan capacity.
Upgrading to a paid plan
You can upgrade your Composer plan at any time to our $20 plan. This $20 plan includes 4X more capacity than your free plan.

Like the free plan, capacity restarts at the beginning of your usage or billing cycle. If you run out of capacity or hit 100% usage on your paid Composer plan, you can always get more by turning on Flexible Overages.
A Flexible Overage is a one-time purchase that includes a set amount of additional capacity units at a set unit rate. For Composer, additional Composer usage can be purchased in $10 increments. When you opt in to flexible overages, you will incur the full $10 charge at the time of usage, regardless of how much additional capacity you need to use. If you need additional capacity, you may incur multiple flex overage charges based on the actions you are taking inside of Composer.
We recommend opting in to Flexible Overages when you first purchase the plan to make sure you are never stopped or blocked from using Composer when you need it most.
You can opt out of Flexible overages any time by navigating to Settings > Billing > Preferences.

How does capacity work?
Every Composer action uses some capacity based on the type of action and how complex your request is. Support and general information questions are free.
How long does my free plan last?
Your free plan lasts 30 days and resets every billing or usage cycle.
Does leftover Composer capacity roll over?
No. Leftover composer capacity does not roll over month-to-month.
Can I see what an action will cost before I run it?
Composer shows your usage after actions run, in the Composer usage panel. Check there any time to see what you've used and how much plan capcity you have left.

What happens when I run out of capacity?
You can move to a paid plan or wait until your free plan resets. if you are on a Composer paid plan already, you can turn on Flexible Overages to automatically add capacity in $10 increments.
