How usage is measured

Composer measures capacity in credits. Actions such as analyzing data, auditing content, and creating campaigns use credits from your plan.

Usage on Composer is dynamic. The same action can cost different amounts depending on the request size, complexity, and data, so two campaigns or two audits won't always cost exactly the same. We show estimated ranges, not fixed costs.

Some questions are free. Asking Composer for support or general information does not use any credits.

The free Composer plan includes 500 credits per cycle. The $20 monthly paid plan includes 2,000 credits, which is 4 times the free plan's capacity.

What actions cost

Composer actions cost different amounts depending on what you're asking for. The table below shows the typical range for each action, expressed in dollars. Actions use your plan's credits; these estimates are not separate charges for each action. Additional charges apply when you exceed your paid plan's capacity with flexible overages enabled.

Why costs vary

Three things drive how much capacity an action uses:

• Request complexity: A quick check costs less than a deep, multi-part request.
• How much data Composer reviews: Auditing one short message uses less capacity than analyzing a large campaign with many components.
• The type of action: Generating a full campaign does more work than answering a focused question, so it costs more.

Because of this, treat the numbers above as estimated ranges, not fixed costs.

Track your usage

You can see your usage any time in the in-product Composer usage panel. It shows how much of your plan's capacity you've used and when your capacity resets. Usage appears after your actions run, so you can keep an eye on your balance as you go.

The panel shows:

• % of Composer plan used
• Days left in your billing cycle and the reset date
• Whether flexible overages are on or off
• A View plan button and, on a free plan, a Buy Composer button if you have permission to purchase plans

To open it:

1. Open Composer in your Klaviyo account.
2. In full-page Composer, click Usage in the header. If you're using Composer in the sidebar, hover over the usage card to open the panel.
3. Review your days remaining, reset date, and capacity used.
4. Select View plan to see your plan details. To upgrade from a free plan, select Buy Composer, review the paid plan and billing preferences, and complete checkout.

For more detailed usage information, click the usage card in Composer's sidebar. This opens the billing usage page for your account.

Your free plan

As a Klaviyo customer, you automatically get a free Composer plan with 500 credits per cycle. There's nothing to sign up for, opt into, or activate, and no credit card is needed to start.

Your free plan capacity restarts at the beginning of your usage or billing cycle. If you run out of capacity or hit 100% usage, you can upgrade to a paid Composer plan or wait until your next billing cycle begins.

Composer displays in-product usage notices at 80%, 90%, and 100% of your plan capacity. At 100% on the free plan, actions that require credits stop until you upgrade or your capacity resets.

Upgrading to a paid plan

You can upgrade your Composer plan at any time to the $20 monthly plan. This plan includes 2,000 credits per cycle, which is 4 times the free plan's capacity. You need permission to manage billing to complete the purchase.

Composer displays in-product usage notices at 80%, 90%, and 100% of your plan capacity. Like the free plan, capacity restarts at the beginning of your usage or billing cycle. If you reach your paid plan's limit, flexible overages let you continue using actions that require credits by automatically purchasing additional capacity. Without flexible overages, wait until your next cycle or enable them to continue.

A flexible overage is a one-time purchase of additional capacity at a set rate. For Composer, additional capacity is purchased automatically in $10 increments when usage exceeds your paid plan's limit. Each increment adds 1,000 credits. You incur the full $10 charge even if you use only part of that additional capacity. If your actions require more capacity, you can incur multiple $10 overage charges in the same cycle.

Review your billing preference when you first purchase the paid plan. Choose flexible overages if you want additional capacity to be purchased automatically, or turn them off if you want actions that require credits to stop at your plan's limit.

To turn flexible overages on or off, you need permission to manage billing:

1. Navigate to Settings > Billing > Preferences.
2. In the Composer section, select Flexible overages to turn them on, or None to turn them off.
3. Click Save. A confirmation appears when your changes are saved.
