Learn how to use the Email AI tool to create an AI-generated campaign email. The option to draft content with AI accepts natural language inputs (i.e., normal phrases and sentences) and generates an email based on a reference template.

The AI-generated email can be sent as is or provide a starting point from which you can edit the content yourself.

Note: This feature is only available for paid Klaviyo accounts.

Use AI to draft a campaign email

Use AI to draft a campaign email

  1. Navigate to the Campaigns tab and do one of the following:
    • Click Create campaign for a new campaign.
    • Click the action button and select Edit campaign to edit an existing campaign.
    • Click the action button and select Clone to copy an existing campaign.
  2. After choosing the lists or segments you want to send to in the Recipients step, click Next.
  3. Choose a template for your email. You must have a drag-and-drop template selected for the “Draft email content” option to appear. The currently selected template will serve as a reference which Email AI will use to generate new content.

For the best results, choose a pre-built template from the library or one you have already created that contains content (e.g., text blocks, buttons, splits, tables, etc). This gives Email AI a better idea of the structure and style you are looking for. Templates that consist primarily of images are more difficult to draft using Email AI.

  4. In the template preview modal, choose Draft email content.
  5. In the text field under Describe your email content, describe what you want to change over the reference template. If you aren’t exactly sure how to write a prompt, select 1 of the examples that appears below the text field.
  6. Once you set up the description and settings, click Generate Drafts. This will create 3 drafts for you to choose from. It may take a few seconds before the drafts are fully generated.
  7. In the Preview section, click on the reference email or 1 of the 3 drafts to preview it in the window on the right.
  8. You have 2 options, either edit the content yourself or generate more drafts:
    1. If one of the drafts is close to what you want, select it and click Open in editor in the top right to enter the email template editor. Edit the generated content as desired.
    2. If you want to try again, revise your description and click Generate Drafts again.

To get the best results possible from the draft generation, provide as much context and specificity as you can on what you are looking for within the 500 character limit.

Examples of context and specificity:

  • Specific sales - “20% off” or “everything half off sale.”
  • Context about your brand - “for my makeup brand” or “for a sale on T-shirts.”
  • Language or tone - “use a professional tone” or “use “Gen Z energy.”
