Syncing locations from Shopify POS
Learn how to bring your Shopify locations into Klaviyo, and what connecting them adds to your location reporting. Linking a Shopify location to a Klaviyo location lets you see in-store orders, campaign attribution, and list growth for that location.
Before you begin
- Owner, Admin, and Manager have write access.
- Your Shopify integration is connected.
- Shopify Markets sync is enabled in your Klaviyo integration settings. You do not need to be using Shopify Markets in Shopify.
Location data reaches Klaviyo only when Shopify Markets sync is enabled in your Klaviyo integration settings. Without it, Klaviyo cannot tell which location a purchase happened at. If it is not enabled, Klaviyo shows a banner with a link to the settings you need to update.
You do not need to be using Shopify Markets in Shopify. The toggle is how Klaviyo asks Shopify for permission to read your location data, so it applies whether or not you sell across multiple markets.
To enable it:
- In Klaviyo, select the Integrations tab.
- Click Shopify to open the integration settings page.
- Under Sync settings > From Shopify, select Sync Shopify Markets to Klaviyo.
- Save your integration settings.
- If prompted, sign in to Shopify with the account you integrated and approve the new access to sync Market data.
See How to use Shopify Markets with Klaviyo for more, including why the setting may be unavailable. Shopify Markets can be enabled on only 1 Klaviyo account per Shopify account.
Import locations from Shopify
- Navigate to Audience > Locations.
- Click Create a location.
- Select Sync Shopify, then click Next.
- On the Locations step, Klaviyo shows the locations it pulled from Shopify. Deselect any you do not want imported. Locations already linked to a Klaviyo location are marked Already linked.
- Follow the remaining steps to set the location type, segment conditions, and profile property.
As with a CSV import, Klaviyo creates a proximity segment and the location profile property for each location it imports. On the Profile property step, Klaviyo shows the property that will be applied. Profiles are tagged with it automatically when they enter one of your location segments. If your account already uses a location profile property, that one is reused for every location in the import and cannot be changed here. You can change it afterward in each location's settings.
To pull in new or renamed Shopify locations without waiting for the nightly sync, click Sync from Shopify on the Locations step. It is always available.
Shopify syncs appear in Import history alongside your CSV imports. A location that is already in Klaviyo is skipped rather than duplicated, so a sync that reports every location as skipped usually means they are all already imported. See Importing locations with CSV.
Link Shopify locations to existing Klaviyo locations
If you already have locations in Klaviyo, link them to the matching Shopify locations rather than importing duplicates. Locations linked to Shopify show a Shopify icon in your locations list, so you can see at a glance which ones are connected.
Link several locations
From the All locations tab, click Link locations in the Link your Shopify locations banner. Klaviyo lists your locations with a dropdown beside each one, so you can match them to Shopify locations in a single pass. Rows already matched show a Linked status instead of a dropdown. A row reads No Shopify locations available when there are no Shopify locations left to pick from.
Link one location
Open the location, click the settings icon, select Shopify, then click Link Shopify locations.
The Shopify section shows each linked Shopify location with its name, address, Shopify ID, and status. In-store purchases from these Shopify locations are attributed to this Klaviyo location.
How linking works
Each Shopify location links to 1 Klaviyo location. Klaviyo matches on the Shopify location ID, not the name, so the names do not need to match. Locations set to inactive in Shopify still appear and can be linked.
A Shopify location already linked to another Klaviyo location can still be selected. Klaviyo tells you it will be remapped, and if you continue it is unlinked from its current Klaviyo location and linked to this one. You do not need to unlink it first.
Klaviyo does not pull revenue figures from Shopify. Linking a Shopify location tells Klaviyo which in-store orders belong to which location, and Klaviyo calculates purchases and revenue itself from Placed Order events on your profiles.
Linking applies to orders placed before you linked, as far back as July 24, 2026. That is when Klaviyo began recording the location on these events, so purchases before then cannot be attributed to a location.
Klaviyo syncs linked locations nightly. The sync is one-way, from Shopify to Klaviyo, and covers the location name only. If you rename a location in Shopify, that name updates in Klaviyo on the next sync. Other details, including the address, do not sync and need updating in Klaviyo.
Unlink a Shopify location
To unlink, use the menu at the end of the row in Settings > Shopify. Unlinking removes the Performance tab data from that location. The location itself stays in Klaviyo, along with its segments, campaign performance, and segment growth.
Unlinking never deletes anything. Your segments, the location profile property, and your in-store orders all stay as they are. If you link the same Shopify location again, or link it to a different Klaviyo location, the purchase data appears there.
What syncing adds
The Performance tab is always on a location's detail page. Linking a Shopify location is what fills it with data:
- Total purchases, gross revenue, net revenue, and refunds
- Purchases and unique purchasers over time
- A campaign to purchase funnel
- A purchase to subscribers funnel
- Revenue from live events at that location
For what each metric measures, see Understanding location reporting.
Troubleshooting
A Shopify sync failed.
A sync can fail if some of your Shopify location data does not pass validation. Import history shows how many locations were imported and how many failed, with the message Some location data couldn't be imported. Check those locations in Shopify, correct the details, then click Re-sync.
The Sync Shopify option is unavailable or returns nothing.
Check that Shopify Markets sync is enabled in your Klaviyo integration settings. Without it, Klaviyo cannot read your location data.
Best practices
- Link rather than re-import. If a location already exists in Klaviyo, link it to the Shopify location so your existing segments and history stay intact.
- Check your links before relying on reporting. A location with no linked Shopify location has no purchase data. The Shopify icon in your locations list shows which ones are connected.
Outcome
Your Shopify locations are connected to Klaviyo, and in-store purchases at those locations are attributed to the matching Klaviyo location.
