This article will walk you through integrating ShipStation with Klaviyo. After completing the steps in this guide, you'll be able to personalize and target emails based on the shipping events and status of orders ShipStation tracks.
Enable Klaviyo's ShipStation Integration
First, navigate to your ShipStation account. Go to Account > API Settings and click Generate API Keys. You will need a public and a private API key.
In another window, navigate to your Klaviyo account. Go to your Integrations tab and search for the ShipStation integration. Then, click Add Integration. Here, you will paste the public and secret API keys that you generated in ShipStation. Click Connect to ShipStation to finish the integration process.
Monitor the Klaviyo Sync
To check on your integration, navigate to your account's Metrics tab. Click on the Received Delivery metric and click on the activity feed icon.
- The ShipStation integration syncs data from all ShipStation stores. However, you are able to filter segments/flows based on store name.
- The ShipStation historical sync pulls in the last 90 days of data.
- The integration uses webhooks to sync the initial order creation in ShipStation and when the order ships, which means this information syncs in real time.
- The periodic sync runs every 30 minutes to look for status updates to create additional events.
If your integration has begun syncing data, you will start to see events being added to this Activity Feed. When your ShipStation integration has a green border in your account's Enabled Integrations list, your historic data sync has completed.
For more information on specific order statuses that are tracked in ShipStation, check out ShipStation's documentation.
Order Awaiting Shipment
We track this event when the order is ready to ship in ShipStation.
Order Awaiting Payment
Any order indicating it is unpaid will be marked as Awaiting Payment. Not all stores support unpaid orders.
ShipStation will update the order status to Order Awaiting Shipment when the store sends updated information about the order. Or, you can manually mark the order as paid. This event will be synced to Klaviyo.
Order on Hold
When you use the Hold action in ShipStation to place an order on hold, we track this event in Klaviyo. This is useful for Pre-Orders, delaying orders with out of stock products, or delaying orders for any other reason.
Orders can be set to On Hold until a select date or after a specified number of days.
Once you print a label for an order, ShipStation will move the order into the Shipped status. Also, orders will move here when you mark them as Shipped. Order Shipped events will be synced to Klaviyo.
Any order you cancel in ShipStation will trigger an Order Cancelled event in Klaviyo.
